Here's a question - on systems that use banana jacks for CVs (like the Buchla 200e), presumably you can use custom 1/4" to banana cables, as I do on my Haken Audio Continuum Voltage Convertor. But since bananas are only a single lead, and have no ground path, how does one handle the grounding for CVs out from a MOTU interface to banana CV systems? (The CVC has a dedicated Ground Out on a banana jack that patches to the banana Ground In on the 200e, which provides ground for all the CVs.)
MOTU has four firewire interfaces that correspond to a specific form factor.
Ultralite - half rack Traveler - very lightweight, designed to rest under a 15" laptop 828 - full rack 896 - 2U rack
The 828mkII included Cuemix DSP, a digital mixer on a chip. The original Ultralite inherited this DSP feature.
The 828mk3 included Cuemix FX, a more powerful DSP that included digital mixing AND real-time effects like reverb, EQ and compression. At that point, we revved the entire firewire product line to include Cuemix FX, and we called everything the mk3.
So, hardware like the Ultralite, 896HD and Traveler, which didn't really have a mkII, are now suddenly mk3. The 'entire line' of Ultralites is the original Ultralite and the mk3. There is no mkII. :)
There is a banana=>spade lug adapter that I use to ground my banana system to another interface. If there is a grounded chassis screw, you can loosen it, and attach the lug adapter there. Hope this makes sense...

ReplyDeleteany word on whether presonus interfaces will work? and what about the old 8th" c/v jacks like on ARPs and whatnot?
ReplyDeleteDo you know if the entire Ultralite series will work with Volta?
ReplyDeleteYes the original Ultralite will work with Volta.
ReplyDeleteJust the original, or the Mk2 and 3 also? Thanks!
